The K-16 Pathways Program branch strives to inspire and guide students to attain their future careers by exposing them to opportunities and resources in the healthcare field. Once a month, roughly 60-100 high school students from underserved areas of Los Angeles join volunteers from the Primary Care Physician Assistant Program at Keck School of Medicine of USC for the Pathways Program. Students are introduced to a wide range of health professions including dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and physical therapy, to name a few. The health professionals speak to students about their careers, pathway on how they reached their career goals, and provide resources on how to pursue their professions. Following the health professionals' presentations, students attend workshops by practicing clinical skills and learn more about the careers in an interactive manner. Workshop topics include anatomy and physiology, nutrition, first-aid, bystander CPR, dental exams and more.
