Live Performance & Lecture for KISS 2020
Proposal for a live Kyma performance and accompanying lecture/demonstration on a technical aspect(s) of your piece — for example, an aspect of the sound design, signal processing, how Kyma was used, and/or live controller mappings. Depending on your preferences, the lecture/demo will be scheduled either at the end of your concert or on a paper session on a subsequent day.

Are you working with Illinois Modern Ensemble?
If you are hoping to work with Illinois Modern Ensemble, please send email to info.kiss2020@gmail.com first to discuss which instruments are available. Once you have agreed on the instrumentation, please describe it here. Thanks!

You can revise the program note later if you save the link that you receive after submitting the form. Please describe the work and how it is related to one or both of the themes: "Sound of Science" or "Origin Stories"
If available, please provide a link to a previous performance (or to another, similar work you've performed) *
Title of your technical presentation *
For example, what kind of technical challenge(s) are posed by your piece? Which challenges and solutions do you think you would focus on?
Brief abstract for your technical presentation *
Overview of some of the clever and interesting solutions you have come up with for creating your live performance in Kyma
When do you prefer to give your technical presentation? *
We cannot guarantee (due to the complicated scheduling problem) but we will take your preferences into account!
Which sound engine can you bring with you for the performance? *
For the live performance, how many line-level audio outputs will you send from your audio interface (or your own small stage mixer)? *
What kind of output connectors does your audio interface have? *
Do you need any microphones? *
How many live input microphones do you need? Do you have all necessary preamps built into your audio interface?
Could you bring your microphone with you? *
Do you plan to bring your own input microphones with you? If not, then what kind of microphone do you need? If you don't need any microphones, just answer "None needed" here.
How many microphone stands and clips will you need? *
Just select 0 if you do not need any mic stands
Does your piece include video projection? *
Where should the laptop, Pacarana, and audio interface be positioned for the performance? *
Please describe any visibility/audibility constraints *
For example, are stage monitors required for the performers? Do performers have to be able to see the screen?
Approximately how much physical space is required for your setup? *
How many 110 V/60 Hz US-style power outlets are required for your setup? *
US grounded power outlet
Do you need a table, a chair, music stand, stand-light, or other "furniture" in your setup? *
For example, how much table space, how many chairs, music stands, lights, podium, or other non-electrical items that may be needed?
How much time is needed for physical setup? *
From the time you walk in the door until the time you are ready to provide sound output for a sound check?
How much time do you need for a sound check? *
Please note that this is to check levels, not a full rehearsal.
Please describe how the technical setup for your lecture/demonstration differs from what you described for your performance, above *
For example, will you need video projection to show your Kyma screen? Do you need a second screen for slides?  Will you be using the same number of microphones and outputs or fewer? Please give it some thought and let us know how your demo setup may or may not be different from your live performance setup. Thanks!
Anything else? Please let us know if there are other technical or logistical considerations for either the performance or the lecture/demonstrations that we may have overlooked! *
Also, if you've performed this (or a similar) piece before in other venues, what were some of the technical challenges you had to face in those other venues & how did you solve them?
Please check: Yes *
Since the focus of KISS 2020 is human interaction, we ask that, should your proposal be accepted, you will attend the symposium to present your work. (If unavoidable and unforeseen circumstances prevent you from attending, your presentation will have to be dropped from the program). Since the proposals are carefully reviewed by a selection committee, we ask that, if your proposal is accepted, you do not substitute a different work or different co-presenters without re-submitting the new proposal for a second review by the selection committee prior to the submission deadline. Although our budget sadly does not allow for remuneration of presenters or performers, the organizers have generously offered to subsidize presenters, co-presenters and performers of accepted presentations by offering a reduced-rate conference fee (which is equal to the subsidized student rate).

How much are you looking forward to KISS 2020 in Urbana/Champaign? *
