Introduction: We have a couple of fun activities for this week. We have our Lenten Calendar word of the week "Give," a Ten Commandments activity and an activity to celebrate St. Patrick's day, which is this Wednesday, March 17th! So let's get started.
The Ten Commandments Activity: We know that long ago God gave Moses the Ten Commandments.  God loves us and cares about our safety and happiness. He wanted us to know how to be fair, loving, kind and holy. The Ten Commandments are God's loving guidelines for living a safe and happy life. By following them, we grow closer to God and to one another. As you learn more about each of the Ten Commandments, you will learn how to tell right from wrong and how to make loving choices. The Ten Commandments activity will help you to display the commandments where you can see them each day and be reminded of God's loving guidelines. In your "Unit 4 Activity Bag" you will find a packet for this week (marked March 14th) that contains your Ten Commandments picture, a sheet of sticky dots and a self-adhesive cardboard stand. Follow the directions below to put together your Ten Commandments picture.
I completed my "Ten Commandments" activity and will display them as a reminder of God's loving guidelines. *

Lenten Calendar: This week's Lenten calendar word is "GIVE." As Christians, we should always be doing charitable acts. However, during Lent, we are asked to focus even more intently on "almsgiving," which means donating money or goods to the poor and performing other acts of charity. There are many ways we can fulfill charitable giving activities, and the "Giving Pail" is just one of those ways. If you have received a Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl in your Unit 4 lesson packet, that can be used in place of the "Giving Pail." During Lent you want to try hard each day, or week, to contribute as much money as you can. Even if it is just a penny, every little bit counts!! At the end of Lent, I will tell you how you can turn in your money to the Church so that it can be given to Catholic Relief Services to help feed the hungry. If you cannot give money, remember that there are many other ways to give. You can give your time to someone to help them out with a task or you can collect books or stuffed animals you don't use anymore to give to a charitable organization. But the bottom line is to think about what you can give to those who need it most. Don't forget to cut out your letters on Page 3 of your Good News Weekly and attach them to your Good News Lenten Calendar (in your first week of Lent Lesson on page 4).
I have placed my "Giving Pail" or CSR Rice Box where I can see it each day as a reminder to give!

St. Patrick's Day: Our last activity for this week is our St. Patrick's Day Activity Packet, which is located in your Unit 4 Lesson Activity Bag. St. Patrick is well-beloved and celebrated for his missionary work in Ireland. He spent around forty years converting the native Irish to the Catholic faith who, prior to the arrival of his missionaries, believed in multiple gods and magic. This was his calling and his life’s greatest work, which was blessed by God. St. Patrick is clearly a model evangelist because of how he challenged the people of that time. We celebrate St. Patrick's day on March 17th. In your St. Patrick's Activity Packet you will find more information about St. Patrick along with some fun activities. The answer keys for these activities is linked to this lesson. Have fun!
I read about St. Patrick and completed my St. Patrick's activities.

Summary: Fantastic job!! This week we learned how Jesus is a light that shows us how to live happy and loving lives. We learned that we can live in Jesus' light by following his teachings and the Ten Commandments. Remember from our Gospel reading this week that "God loves the world so much that he gave his only Son to save us. Everyone who believes in him will live with God forever." John 3:16 This is what the Good News of Jesus is all about!
