About the Conference
NOFA-NH’s 21st Annual Winter Conference will be held on Saturday, February 11th at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH. Select workshops will be streamed during the conference for those who would like to attend online. All workshops must be done in person.

Theme: The Art of Food & Farming- Skill Sharing for a Brighter Future

In the essay The Gift of Good Land Wendell Berry shows us that impacting our communities must come from the acts of its people, and to be able to act means you must have the skill to do so. Learning is the root of change. The 2023 Winter Conference is getting back to the basics as we center on actionable skill development that builds the knowledge of our community to create the change we hope for.

For this conference we are looking for workshops that are focused on skill building. Ideally, your workshop is a specific focus. For example, instead of a broad workshop on raising chickens we are looking for a workshop on building different feeders for your chickens. For inspiration view the example workshops below.

Example Workshop Topics of Interest

  1. Food Preservation: Winter Storage, Canning, & Pickling
  2. Foraging: Safety, Wild Edibles, & Mushrooms
  3. Farm Equipment Repair/Maintenance/Preservation
  4. Composting: Year Round Maintenance, Various Techniques, Building a Bin
  5. Timber Framing To Build Your Own Barn or Shed
  6. Building and Utilizing A High Tunnel
  7. Cooking Demos: Ways to Maximize Produce
  8. Farming Techniques: Permaculture, Hugelkulture, Cover Cropping, Pest Management, Seed Saving
  9. Farm Business Practices: Business Planning, Tax Processes, Fair Labor, Grant Writing
  10. How To Construct Different Chickens Feeders

The goal of this conference is to build skills and empower farmers, gardeners, and eaters to work collaboratively and individually to build a stronger NH food system. We are seeking speakers from diverse backgrounds to share their knowledge, perspectives, and experiences.
