Broward 4-H Association
Broward County 4-H Mission:

Broward County 4-H facilitates the upward mobility and realization of the full potential of Broward County youth. We mentor young people in a 4-H club and instill in them an optimistic view of the future based on responsibility, hard work, and service to others. Thus, they obtain the wisdom that comes from learning by doing, analyzing their experiences, and putting their knowledge to the test.

We develop teams of youth and adult volunteers that are capable of demonstrating subject matter expertise and skills mastery in 4 areas: science, agriculture, healthy living, and civic engagement. The 4-H Extension staff and adult volunteers lead 4-H programs and clubs to teach a number of practical interests: urban farming, environmental science, archery, foods and nutrition, sewing, and many others. 4-Hers explore these projects for general personal development, service to others, and as career options.

To support the development of 4-H youth and adult volunteers, Broward County 4-H stages the annual 4-H Community Fair and other 4-H county events. These activities give 4-H adult and youth volunteers the opportunity to work together towards a common goal and to share their knowledge with each other. These events inspire exploring new areas and achieving higher results. Everyone benefits from Broward County 4-H, because when a significant group of people all want to make the best better, the entire community benefits.

Joining a board commits you to overseeing the fulfillment of the organization’s mission by providing resources, providing oversight for the financial operations, and carrying out other board member functions.  Active board participation is key to the success of the organization.  And while we are sensitive to everyone’s busy schedules, the following 7 items are expected of all board members:
1. Attend board meetings, specially 6 of 8 meetings required per calendar year. *
2. Come prepared to discuss the issues and business on the agenda for meetings, having read all material provided. Support Broward County 4-H’s mission, goals, policies and programs, while knowing its strengths and needs. *
3. Annual giving to Broward County 4-H. 4-H should be one of the top three charities supported by the board member and a cash contribution of a significant amount is expected each year. This is a “give” directly or “get” commitment. Additional contributions are encouraged in the form of in-kind products, expertise for a service the organization would otherwise need to purchase, finding sponsors or others to donate to meet financial obligations, etc. Board members should participate and encourage participation in fundraising drives. *
4. Attend events and bring someone new to events to help advocate for the organization and promotion of 4-H. *
5. Participate actively in the organization as a board member and serve on at least one committee or task force. *
6. Recruit volunteers. Adult volunteers are needed for board positions, fair judging, project leaders and club leaders. Recommend qualified adults you may know. Recruit youth volunteers to the organization. *
