kevin.gotkin@gmail.comThis is event is focused on how arts organizations can develop budgeting strategies that support disabled artists. We will discuss methods for centering artists' financial needs while recognizing the limits of monetary compensation as a sole form of exchange between artists and organizations. Our goal is to find possibilities for organizational processes that more directly honor the work of disabled artists and organizers.
The event will feature Dom Chatterjee, founder of QTPoC Mental Health and Rest for Resistance. They will share lessons from their experience developing processes like a flipped sliding scale for centering artists' financial needs assessments. Their experience as a disabled artists and as an organizer developing new organizational strategies will open a conversation among everyone in attendance.
This event follows Budgeting Strategies for Disabled Artists on Saturday, July 30th, designed around disabled artists' experiences and expertise about budgeting systems. You can register for that event at:
https://forms.gle/dBhNX4tmpHapS49J6. The final event, on Tuesday, August 9th, will be a “jam session” for artists to co-work, hang out, connect, and continue conversations that started in the first events. You can register for that event at:
https://forms.gle/JFb3Qdi2eSFM26CNA.
If you are looking for conversations about radical and emergent strategies organizations can use to support disabled artists, this is a good event for you. If you are looking to connect and discuss with other artists, the jam session is good for you. Everyone is invited to all sessions.
Follow-up materials and a recording of the presentation portion of the event will be available to those who register.
This event is part of a series offered by Kinetic Light to support disabled artists' know-how in U.S. arts worlds.
