Application to Participate in the 2023 Crime and the Chinatown-Downtown Neighborhood Roundtable Event
The Criminal Justice Faculty in the College of Professional Studies for Hawai'i Pacific University will be facilitating a Roundtable event in the Spring of 2023 to assess and address perceptions of crime and safety by members of the Chinatown-Downtown Neighborhood.
  • Are you concerned about crime and our community?
  • Are you interested in gaining greater insight into what is happening in our community?
  • Are you willing to work toward a better tomorrow?
  • Are you able to work cooperatively, listen to others who may have perspectives different then your own, and work to find common ground to build solutions for others?
  • Can you demonstrate passion and commitment while acting with pono, kuleana, and aloha?
If you answered "yes" to all of these questions, you may be exactly who we are looking for to join us in analyzing crime in the Chinatown-Downtown Neighborhood.

Roundtable Objectives:

  1. Review survey data submitted by members of the Chinatown-Downtown Neighborhood community members.
  2. Examine the criminal justice-related issues identified through the survey in a non-confrontational, supportive, information-gathering, and problem-solving environment.
  3. Formulate a plan for executing one or more related strategies for enhancing community safety.
  4. Present action plan for strategies to the Roundtable and community-at-large.

Time Commitment:

The Roundtable members will meet on Thursday evenings, between the hours of 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm at Hawai'i Pacific University, Aloha Tower Marketplace (ATM), 1 Aloha Tower Drive, Honolulu, Hawai'i 96813. Meetings will be held in room ATM MPR 3. The dates we will meet are projected to include: (1) January 19, 2023; (2) February 9, 2023; (3) February 23, 2023; (4) March 16, 2023; (5) March 23, 2023; (6) April 6, 2023; and (7) April 27, 2023; with an unveiling to the Neighborhood of the community resource and strategies developed through the roundtable event on or about the evening of May 4, 2023.
