In these disruptive, uncertain times, it can be difficult to stay positive in the classroom, not to mention find time and space to do our own creative work. In this Teacher’s Round Table session, poet and educator Ian Ramsey will share work by poets throughout history who have used writing as a way to survive challenging times.  Then he will guide participants through writing exercises that honor the challenges and fears they face and help them create writing-oriented strategies to stay positive, healthy, and motivated.

Ian Ramsey lives in Maine, where he teaches at North Yarmouth Academy and directs the Kauffmann Program for Environmental Writing and Wilderness Exploration. His poetry collection, Hackable Animal, was a finalist for the Prism Climate Prize and will be published in 2023 by Homebound Press. Ian holds an MFA from the Rainier Writing Workshop and is a founding board member of Physiology First, a nonprofit that teaches students how to manage anxiety and improve their performance.
