This is the Character:

*You want your audience to focus on
*Whose goals / external motivations drive the plot
*Who will travel the journey in the story of your screenplay
*With whom the audience will most identify
*Who, by definition, will be on screen most of the time.
*This character should initiate the action…

Be aware that there are also “anti-heros”
Describe your PROTAGONIST *
THE ANTAGONIST
This is the Character(s)

*Often referred to as the “Oppositional Character(s)”
*Who make it difficult for the protagonist to achieve his/her goals.
*Should push the protagonist to their utmost limits
*Should have a valid (believable) reason for obstructing the protagonist’s
path… Evil for the sake of evil is poor writing…
Describe your ANTAGONIST *
THE MIRROR CHARACTER(S)
This is the Character:

*Often referred to as “reflection” or “support” characters
*Who is most aligned with the protagonist
*Support the protagonist (or are in the same situation as the protagonist).
*Should add depth to the protagonist via dialogue.
*Should add credibility to the protagonist
*Allows the internal workings of a protagonist to surface

THE ROMANCE CHARACTER(S)
This is the Character:

*Who is the object of your protagonist’s desires – the “prize” (sexual or otherwise)
*Supports the protagonist but must also create obstacles
*Should create a conflict for the protagonist or else things will get boring…
*Important that the audience ALSO falls in love with the romance character…
