Description
The Early Childhood and Cognition Lab is recruiting summer research assistants to work on studies of exploration and learning. We use a variety of methods, from looking time studies with infants and behavioral measures with preschoolers, to surveys and eye-tracking experiments with adults.
The primary project "Lookit: Baby Physics" is a longitudinal study investigating infant understanding of physics. Students will aid with participant recruitment, preparing video data for analysis, and creating individualized reports for parents. This requires 15+ hours per week.
Students may also tackle an additional research project with the guidance of a graduate student or, with exceptional motivation, explore novel research questions. We currently study topics including the development of language, causality, problem solving, and social reasoning abilities. Students interested in a second project should expect to commit 8+ additional hours per week.
Minimum time commitments:
- 8+ weeks (May - August) with potential to continue in the Fall
- 10+ hrs/week to work with infant video data (MIT campus)
- 3+ hrs/week working with families at the Boston Children's Museum
- 2+ hrs/week attending meetings, such as weekly reading group or programming workshop (R)
