Due to COVID 19, the 2021 Mathias Bartels Community Nordic Ski event is going virtual - and global!  

All proceeds benefit the Mathias J. Bartels Scholarship Fund and the Mt. Greylock Cross Country Ski Team.

We recognize that this year and this pandemic have caused hardship for many and having as many people participate as possible to celebrate Mathias’ life is what we hope for. That being said, should you be in a position to donate to the scholarship and ski team we thank you for your generosity and invite you to please provide the details below.  Thank you and have fun!

HOW IT WORKS
-Any time during the week of February 14th through 21st you are invited to ski, run or choose another outdoor activity.
-Please take a photo or video of yourself and tell us where you are by holding up a sign (handwritten!) that says "Mathias in ____" or #MathiasRace2021.
-Complete this form and upload your photo or video to Google Photos:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/59fLa1nvSfmMrhXb6 no later than February 22nd.   Note:  Google Photos is available for download on iPhone and Android.
-On Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. join a virtual celebration to share our experiences via a fun video, remember and celebrate Mathias and our love of the outdoors, and announce awards.  We will send you a zoom link ahead of time!

Local course option: A 6 kilometer course will be set up at Mt. Greylock Regional High School (weather dependent) as one option for local skiers.

Other options: If you are out of town, state or country, or unable to ski at the Mt. Greylock course, you are encouraged to choose whatever form of outdoor activity and whatever distance works for you!

Awards:  Participants will be recognized for: most kilometers achieved in a single day, most number of family members participating, most elevation gain in a single workout, fastest times on the MG race course, and best photo or video. To be considered for an award, please submit your data (times, Strava link, statement of achievement) to: hgreene@williams.edu.

Masks: As a special reminder of this event, all participants will receive a protective face mask made of fabric with a winter theme sewn by Berkshire Seamsters, a group of immigrant women from Pittsfield.  Details about distribution of masks to follow!
