GOD'S GIFT OF FORGIVENESS: As the day of your First Reconciliation is drawing near you want to be prepared to make the best confession you can. If you recall in Lesson 1 of this program, we talked about our "conscience." God has blessed you with a conscience, the gentle voice inside you that encourages you to do good and avoid evil. God speaks to us through our conscience. Following our conscience makes us happy. Ignoring our conscience makes us irritable, restless, and unhappy. God doesn’t want us to be restless and unhappy, so he gives us the gift of Reconciliation. Before we go to Reconciliation, we examine our conscience so that we know what to talk to the priest about. To examine means to look at something very carefully. To do this we can ask ourselves a series of questions that will help us to see where we may have chosen to sin, walked down a wrong path, made a poor choice, broken one of God’s commandments, not listened to your conscience, or simply not been the-best-version-of-yourself. Turn to page 11 in your "God's Gift of Forgiveness" booklet and read "Examination of Conscience" and when you are done answer the questions below.

Super terrific job!! The answers to the questions in the booklet and on your "Examination of Conscience Card" in your "My Reconciliation Packet," will help you to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. By taking time to reflect on the questions you will be prepared to speak to the priest when you enter the Confessional. It’s hard for us to remember all the times we have sinned; that’s why an examination of conscience is helpful. Sitting in a quiet place and thinking through questions like these will help you to remember times when you have failed to keep the commandments or to do what was right.
LEARNING ABOUT THE TEN COMMANDMENTS: We are getting close to the last of our commandments. In this section we will be looking at the 8th Commandment "You shall not bear false witness." Turn to page 12 in your "Learning About the Ten Commandments" booklet and read about the 8th Commandment and then answer the questions below. Remember to look in your reading to help you find the answers.
You probably heard that God is love. God is also _____________. *

You are awesome! In the 8th Commandment, Jesus asks those who follow him to use language simply, in a way that yes means yes and no means no. This honest way of speaking takes others into account and doesn't use words to wound. If we tell lies, use words to make someone uncomfortable, or spread gossip, we can cause all kinds of problems for ourselves and others. Saint Augustine tells us "I understood that God is Truth. It is written, in fact, that God is light - not the light that our eyes see, but that which the heart sees, when it hears: God is the Truth." Choosing truth is the first step to building true and lasting relationships. Truth gives others good reason to trust us. Don't forget to locate your 8th Commandment sticker and place it in the appropriate spot on page 12 of your booklet.
FAMILY TIME: Now it is time to take all that we have learned in our Lesson 4 and apply it at home, school and with friends.  Think about this, when was the last time you forgave someone? When was the last time someone forgave you? We don’t talk about forgiveness to blame ourselves or to feel bad about ourselves. God doesn’t want that. We talk about these things so we can do something about them.  In our lesson this week we learned that Jesus wants his followers to show the strength and power of love by asking forgiveness. Now locate your "How to Ask Forgiveness" chart in your "Lesson Activity Bag." When you read it over be sure to place a check mark in the box by the words that show us to ask for forgiveness. When you are done place your chart in a place where it will remind you that while it is hard sometimes to ask for forgiveness, with Jesus' help you will be able to do it!

PRAYER RITUAL:  This lessons "I Can Forgive" prayer is an excellent one to say with your family and to use as a reminder of how you can forgive. As you read the prayer with your family have everyone come up with one other example of a time when you can forgive. You may even want to come up with a sign you can share with your family when you ask them for forgiveness like a handshake or a sign of peace.
END OF LESSON SURPRISE: You have now completed Lesson 4 in your Reconciliation Sacramental preparation program - awesome job!!! Which means it is time to open your end of lesson surprise bag. Be sure to read the card that comes with your surprise to see the meaning behind the gift!! Have fun and have a wonderful week!!
Super great job!  I want you to remember that "Reconciliation is a Celebration." It is a celebration of God's power to make all things new for us!! We will continue to learn more about this celebration as we continue our lessons!
