HET BELANG VAN WOEDE. Woede als verbindende factor

Boosheid en woede zijn begrippen die vaak onterecht als synoniem worden gebruikt want deze termen staan min of meer haaks op elkaar en hebben een tegenovergestelde betekenis hebben. Boosheid neemt steeds meer ruimte in de media en publieke domein in: boze burgers en boze politici. Deze boosheid is de voorbode van het nieuwe kwaad. Het is vooral fatalistisch, destructief,  exclusief en polariserend. Woede is het tegendeel ervan. Woede is een appel aan liefde, op iets wat men onder de aandacht wil brengen wat van waarde is, wat beschermd of veranderd dient te worden. Het gaat niet om het afbreken van iets (zoals bij boosheid) maar om het creëren en het scheppen van mogelijkheden: mogelijkheden tot verbinding en verandering. Woede is geen vlugge emotie maar een diepgeworteld gevoel, het is een vorm van energie en een creatieve bron.

Woede is daarom ook interessant voor theater, voor voor en achter de schermen. Theatermakers zijn 'kwetsbaren' die continu bepaalde waarden en voorwaarden voor hun kunst moeten beschermen, en tegelijkertijd naar mogelijkheden tot verbinding en verandering zoeken. Hoe kunnen wij woede gebruiken en toepassen in onze praktijk? Hoe kan woede een instrument zijn voor het formuleren van voorwaarden voor onze kunstpraktijk, hoe kunnen we woede toepassen als theatraal middel in voorstellingen, manifestaties en manifesten. Welke impact kan woede hebben?

In BLOK Cement willen wij aandacht besteden aan de vraag wat wij artistiek kunnen doen met woede, en hoe dan?

Wie zoeken wij?

BLOK Cement is er voor de avontuurlijke theaterstudent. De student die graag buiten zijn eigen comfort zone treedt, die benieuwd is wat er buiten zijn schoolmuren gebeurt, de student die zelf makers-ambities heeft en die op zoek is naar mogelijke samenwerkingsverbanden, die impulsen, inspiratie en goesting wil opdoen, de student die in gesprek, discussie en botsing wil gaan met andere aspirant theatermakers, scenografen en dramaturgen, kortom... voel je je al geroepen?

Voorwaarden

- Je zit in je 3e of 4e jaar van een theater-, schrijf-, dans- of scenografieopleiding in Vlaanderen of Nederland
- Je hebt zelf makers-ambities

Wat doen we?

BLOK Cement is een jaarlijks terugkerend atelier onder leiding van Florian Hellwig.
Drie dagen lang werken en discussiëren de deelnemers samen, bezoeken voorstellingen en doen mee aan masterclasses van makers die op het festival staan. Daarnaast kruisen hun wegen met studenten dramaturgie uit Vlaanderen en Nederland en gaan zij in gesprek met de artistieke leiding van het festival. Zo worden er nieuwe banden gesmeed en mogelijke toekomstwegen verkend.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ANGRY. Anger as a connecting factor

Anger and maliciousness are concepts that are often incorrectly used as synonyms because these terms are more or less at odds with each other and have opposite meaning. Maliciousness takes up more and more space in the media and public domain: malicious citizens and malicious politicians. This maliciousness is the harbinger of the new evil. It is primarily fatalistic, destructive, exclusive and polarizing. Anger is the opposite of it. Anger is an apple of love, something that people want to bring to the attention of what is of value, what needs to be protected or changed. It is not about breaking something (as with maliciousness) but about introducing and creating possibilities: possibilities for connection and change. Anger is not a quick emotion but a deeply rooted feeling, it is a form of energy and a creative source.

Anger is therefore also interesting for theater, before and behind the scenes. Theater makers are 'vulnerable' as makers who must constantly protect certain values ​​and conditions for their art, and at the same time look for opportunities for connection and change. How can we use and apply anger in our practice? How can anger be an instrument for formulating conditions for our art practice, how can we apply anger as a theatrical tool in representations, manifestations and manifestos. What impact can anger have?

In BLOK Cement we want to pay attention to the question of what we can do artistically with anger, and how?

Who are we looking for?

BLOK Cement is for the adventurous theater student. The student who likes to leave his own comfort zone, who is curious about what happens outside his school walls, the student who has maker ambitions and who is looking for possible collaborations, who wants to gain impulses, inspiration and enthusiasm, the student who want to engage in conversation, discussion and collision with other aspiring theater makers, scenographers and dramaturges, in short ... do you already feel called?

Conditions

- You are in your 3rd or 4th year of a theater, writing, dance or scenography study in Flanders or the Netherlands
- You have maker ambitions

What are we doing?

BLOK Cement is an annual atelier under the direction of Florian Hellwig.
For three days, the participants work and discuss together, visit performances and participate in master classes by makers at the festival. In addition, their paths intersect with dramaturgy students from Flanders and the Netherlands and they enter into discussions with the artistic direction of the festival. In this way new ties are forged and possible future routes are explored.
