Gender-Affirming Care: Surgical Readiness & Aftercare
This course is for health professionals who want to provide gender-affirming care in relation to surgical interventions. This course is primarily intended for primary care providers (physicians, residents, and nurse practitioners) who can fill complete surgery coverage applications and provide post-operative care, but all healthcare professionals are welcome to take the course to learn more about gender-affirming care.

Note this course was designed within the context of the Nova Scotia health system but the lessons are broadly applicable.

This course will review the process for assessing a person for gender affirming surgery, filling out an MSI surgery application form, the gender affirming surgeries that are covered by MSI, and the post-operative follow up required for patients after surgery.

This training is entirely online and is self-directed learning. This course is accredited through Mainpro+ if completed by October 31, 2023. 

Total estimated time required to complete this course is 2 hours and 50 minutes. In this course, participants will:
1️⃣ Hear the gender-affirming journeys of community members (45 minutes)
2️⃣ Engage with practice considerations in a video led by Dr Leisha Hawker from the North End Community Health Centre (35 minutes)
3️⃣ Watch a recorded Q&A and panel discussion of those with lived experience and healthcare professionals (80 minutes)
4️⃣ Complete an online quiz to demonstrate learning (approximately 5 minutes)
5️⃣ Provide feedback through an evaluation survey (5 minutes)
