Hi there and welcome to the application for Michigan Youth Voice (MY Voice) 2019-2020. Please be sure to read all the information below to decide if this opportunity is right for you. Feel free to reach out to
info@moash.org if you have any questions about the application or MY Voice in general.
1. What is MY Voice:
MY Voice is the youth advisory council for MOASH (the Michigan Organization on Adolescent Sexual Health). MOASH mobilizes youth voices, engages community partners, and informs decision-makers to advance sexual health, identities, and rights. MY Voice exists to inform the services, programs and materials created for youth by MOASH and other community partners. In addition, MY Voice members are involved in various youth advocacy efforts throughout the year and use their voices of experience to improve services for youth across the state. Members are typically 16-21 but younger youth can be accepted on a case by case basis. Visit
www.moash.org/my-voice for more information.
2. What we expect of members:
Being on the board should be considered a job. Members are compensated for their time, travel and expertise. The group meets once a month in Lansing on Saturdays during the school year and we expect members will be able to attend most of the meetings (there are only 12 of them, after all). Sometimes there may be some work between meetings. Don't worry, we know you're busy and we only do this if necessary (like when we run out of time at meetings, have an urgent request for youth feedback or are engaging in a special project). Also - you probably figured this, but permission from a parent or guardian is required for those ages 17 and under.
3. What you can expect:
Fair compensation for your time and travel as well as meals at meetings! Throughout the year, portions of each meeting will be dedicated to member-ed. MY Voice members will have the opportunity to be trained on a variety of sexual health topics, undergo leadership development, gain communication skills and work on advocacy efforts. Members have a lot of say over what happens during the year and we're always open to youth feedback. Most meetings will have some time dedicated to youth providing feedback on materials (this will be when remote-members join in on the meeting). There are also optional opportunities to co-facilitate meetings and earn additional pay; however, these opportunities will take more time. We are also looking to expand our focus to working with legislators and other important decision makers within the next year!
Sounding good so far? Great!
This application will close Sunday August 4th at 11:59 PM.
Applications will be reviewed and interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis!
We'll have our orientation and kick-off meeting for members in early September.
