Afro Manga Application
Afro-Manga is a ten-week course that teaches high school youth the essential skills to create a Digital Comic. Students will learn character design, writing, storyboarding.

Afro Manga will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 PM from Oct. 5 to Dec. 9 in the Lighthouse teen center at the Homewood-Brushton YMCA.  Transportation home will be provided to youth living in 15208, 15206, and 15221. Classes take place from 6:00 to 7:30 PM with lab time before class from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Dinner is provided at 5:30pm between lab and class time.

In the past decade there has been an undeniable explosion of African-Americans creating and consuming stories in anime, manga, digital comics and various cinematic universes. This course is an opportunity for youth to create original characters that reflect who they are or who they want to be, while also learning creative skills that could turn into a profitable career or hobby.

Please complete the application below in its entirety. If we receive more than 10 applicants, students will be chosen based on thoughtful responses below and their commitment to attending all 20 classes.
