UKZN Data Science Hackathon 2023            28 February - 3 March

DARA Big Data and its partners in the Hack4dev project, in conjunction with the University of KwaZulu-Natal College of Teaching and Learning,  are organising a 4-day Data Science Hackathon event to be held at the UKZN Howard campus.

The event will feature presentations by data scientists from both academia and industry, tutorials in data science and machine learning, followed by a hackathon task. The projects for this hackathon involve the sentiment analysis of Twitter data, as well as image classification!

Most days will run approximately from 9.00am to 4.30pm. Participants must commit to attending each day in full.

Travel assistance from within KwaZulu-Natal and accommodation may be provided if necessary. Tea and lunch will be provided on all days.

Who can apply?
Undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as young professionals residing within KZN who have Python experience and a keen interest in data science and machine learning.

We highly encourage women in particular to apply to take part as women are under-represented in the data science field. This event will be a safe and supportive environment for all and several tutors will be present throughout to provide guidance to participants.

You will need to have at least a basic working knowledge of Python.

****** The deadline for registration is Friday 3rd February ******

There is no charge to take part in this event, however there are limited places available and demand is expected to be high. A selection process will be used to award places; you will be notified by early February if you have been given a place or not.
