The goals of the EmPowered Schools Program are to:
1. Educate students about energy and energy efficiency through STEM-based lesson plans aligned to standards;

2. Provide students hands-on follow-up activities, diagnostic tools and the communication and
    leadership skills to lead schoolwide campaigns that reduce energy waste and save thousands of
    dollars in energy costs;

3. Build educational and professional pathways to green jobs;

4. Help schools earn points toward certification in the Sustainable Jersey for Schools and Eco-Schools
    programs.
The Alliance to Save Energy will:
1. Support EmPowered Schools teachers to provide high-quality, inquiry-based learning for
    their students in the following ways:
          a. Conduct a teacher training that orients teams to the program.
          b. Host Mid-Year and End-of-Year meetings to share school successes and challenges.
          c. Provide an annual stipend for each school team. If schools have more than one lead teacher,
              stipends will be shared.
              Stipends will be paid in two equal installments (at beginning of the program and at the
              completion of the program in the spring).
          d. Provide an Alliance staff member to support schools via phone, video conferencing, and email.
          e. Provide access to the EmPowered Schools website, which contains all the lesson materials in a
              user-friendly interface. Schools will also receive energy auditing toolkits and t-shirts.
          f. Support custodians/facilities staff to work with teams to identify and implement changes in
             school facilities that will save energy and improve comfort.
          g. Help teams leverage EmPowered Schools Program activities toward Sustainable
              Jersey for Schools certification.

2. Foster communication and collaboration among participating teachers and students.

3. Coordinate with aligned resources and programs to support student learning.
The school and/or district agrees to:
1. Identify an EmPowered Schools team lead (teacher or staff member) at each participating school to implement the program
    and attend the three program meetings.

2. Assemble a team of students who will participate in the program's lesson plans and follow-up
    activities, and will lead efforts to share energy efficiency best practices with their peers, faculty, and
    broader communities.

3. Allow student EmPowered teams to conduct energy audits and patrol contests.
