Making It Up: Improvisation across the disciplines of music and science

Dan Jonas (Performing Arts) & Adam Johnston (Physics)

In teaching at all levels, we listen and respond to our students in order to help them make sense of new ideas and problems on their own terms. Musicians, especially in jazz, do this all the time, listening to one another and the collective experience they’re creating. Scientists, too, respond to natural phenomenon and others’ ideas as they investigate and model. In this workshop, we’ll actively practice some listening, seeing, responding, and creating in the musical, scientific, and teaching arenas and discuss how these can be put into practice in our own respective classrooms.

ALL ARE WELCOME! NO MUSIC, SCIENCE, OR OTHER EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

Hosted by Weber State's Center for Science & Mathematics Education
