2020 Community Building Fund
The HBI Community Building Fund offers small, flexible grants to any Harvard student, fellow, faculty or staff member with an idea for making neuroscience research, career exploration or outreach work at Harvard more efficient—particularly by reducing barriers to collaboration. These grants are meant to support creative endeavors not easily covered by other funding sources.

Application Deadline: June 1st

Decisions: Depending on the volume of applications and scope of your proposal, some decisions may be made on a rolling basis before June. At the latest you will hear back by end of July.

Your Proposal *
Describe your idea in 500 words or less – what precisely you’d like to do, why it matters and why it excites you. Consider the unmet need you wish to address, who your audience is and what you anticipate being the impact of the project on our neuroscience community.
Sustainability & Assessing Impact *
If you propose developing a physical or digital resource, how will that resource be maintained over time and how will you assess its utility? If you propose an event or activity – how will you determine its success and impact on the community? Do you envision your idea being a one-time event or something that might be reoccurring?
Existing Resources or Activities *
Is your resource or activity similar to something that already exists at Harvard? If so, how are you taking that into consideration and building upon or differentiating it?
Budget & Need for Funding *
Please note the total dollar amount requested, with a paragraph or bulleted list explaining the components involved. Also, have you looked for funding elsewhere? Would the requested grant from HBI be supplementing existing funding or covering your full expenses?
Time Frame *
What is the rough time frame for your project? Note that projects funded in this cycle must start during or before the Fall 2020/Spring 2021 academic year.
