Question:  Why do we have to pick a saint name?

Answer:  This practice of “taking a new name” is found throughout both the old and new testaments as a sign of conversion or change.  It symbolizes that something different has happened to you. That there is a new beginning in your faith life. We pick a patron saint name because it should be a source of inspiration, an example of how FAITH can be lived in a practical way. The saint name will remind us to have faith, be hopeful and seek Love.

Why do we need a sponsor for Confirmation?

Answer:

A Confirmation sponsor is like a good friend who is willing to give of their time and energy to help you on your spiritual journey.  The primary responsibility of the sponsor is to provide prayerful support and guidance, especially when it comes to your faith.  

Being a sponsor is a lifelong commitment. A sponsor takes on the role of a spiritual support who “brings the candidate to receive the sacrament, presents him to the minister for the anointing, and will later help him to fulfill his baptismal promises faithfully under the influence of the Holy Spirit” (Rite of Confirmation 5).

Pick a confirmation name and complete the questions below.    Remember the name you pick for your Saint paper is the name you will use when you get Confirmed.  Also, this report must be completed and submitted to complete the requirements for Confirmation.  What we ask is for you to write a genuine, authentic response to each question.  Copy and paste papers will be returned.  

Once you picked your saint, fill out the questions below.  Make sure to write more than 5 sentences for each section.  A paragraph or two is best.  

Remember, the saint you pick is like a hall-of-famer for the faith.  They should be people who inspire you.

Is the person you are selecting for a sponsor a practicing Catholic?  It is a blessing and a must for the sponsor to be a Catholic who has celebrated the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.  The person you are selecting should inspire your faith in God as a Catholic. Why... because in some sense you are choosing your Catholic identity and this person can help you understand what it means to be a Catholic Christian.   *
A sponsor should not be your parent.  It is important to have other responsible adults and friends involved in the faith life of the young person getting confirmed.  The church is asking for those getting Confirmed to choose a person of inspiration that is not a parent.  This person can be your Godparent from baptism or it can be some like a sibling, cousin, family friend, teacher, etc. Did you pick someone other than your parent?   *
Is the person you are selecting for a sponsor someone that has the time to support you.  A sponsor should have a willingness and ability to spend time with you during and after your Confirmation.  They should also be able to attend the Ceremony and Rehearsal.  Is this possible? *
