The Mulungushi 100 is a self supported 100km mountain bike race with ~2300m of climbing. It is designed to challenge riders while also taking them to the most incredible spots that surround Mulungushi dam.
The 100km route consists of two separate 50km loops. The first (western) loop takes riders down to the edge of the Mwomboshi river valley, before bringing them back onto the Mulungishi ridge, overlooking the dam. Riders will come back through the club after finishing the first 50km, giving them an opportunity to stock up on food and water before they head out onto the second loop.
The 50km Challenge follows the second loop of the 100km, taking riders to the edge of the Lunsemfwa gorge, before crossing the Mulungushi river. The big challenge of the day will be the Six Ugly Sisters - six long climbs in rapid succession, giving riders over 600m of ascent in just 16km. In the final 20km, riders will enjoy some flat, fast sections along the northern banks of the dam, followed by the flowing Mulungushi river trails.
The 20km fun ride takes riders to some of the best trails in the area, without the distance. Known as the 'middle 20', this loop takes riders down to John Zulu's bridges over the Mulungushi river, before bringing them back up to the edge of the dam, and finishing on the Mulungushi river trails.
