Registration: Data Journalism Fellowship by Newslaundry and India Data Portal
A. Eligibility Criteria

1. You should be a journalist, with demonstrable past experience in the field.
2. Preference will be given to journalists reporting from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
3. Journalists working with newsroom can also apply for the fellowship as long as the organisation they work with approve their participation.  

B. Selection Criteria

1. Interested candidates to submit a story pitch using dataset(s) from India Data Portal (www.indiadataportal.com).

      (a) The pitch must demonstrate comfort using data in reportage.
      (b) Experience of covering sectors listed on India Data Portal.

2. The Jury will comprise of Newslaundry and external language-editors (TBC).
3. The total number of fellows to be shortlisted: 16 (English: 4; Hindi: 4; Bengali: 2; Oriya: 2; Marathi: 2; Telugu: 2).

C. Fellowship Programme

1. Duration: 4 weeks
2. After the screening process, the shortlisted fellows will start working on their stories by leveraging India Data Portal’s dataset(s). They will work in close consultation with the Newslaundry editors and language-editors on their stories.
3. The fellows will have to submit one story (word length: 1200 words) using IDP dataset(s) during the Fellowship.
4. Fellows to attend all the masterclasses organised by the India Data Portal during the
term of the fellowship.

D. Fellowship Benefits

1. Access to monthly IDP masterclasses.
2. Research assistance (compilation, collation, visualisation, etc.) from researchers at the Indian School of Business.
3. Fellows will be eligible for a stipend of INR 12,000, depending on the output produced and masterclasses attended.
4. Opportunity to participate in the “Best News Article” competition organised by India Data Portal.
5. Newslaundry will provide the Fellows with an opportunity to publish their data stories (english/hindi)  on its website. Fellows will be free to avail of this opportunity or publish in organisations of their choice/affiliation. These stories will also be featured on the IDP platform.
