The Beast of Bozeman Liability and Media Release
The Beast of Bozeman is a community wide talent contest open to all ages and genres of performance art. The 2023 Beast competition will include the following genres: Vocalists, Musicians, Bands, Dancers, Drag Artists, Comedians, & Cirque Performers.

Rules and Regulations

To Be Eligible You Must: 

  • Be a resident of the state of Montana. 
  • Complete the audition process and be chosen to compete by the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture’s audition committee. 
  • You may not be an Emerson Staff member a current, or previous member of the Emerson’s Board of Directors. 
  • You may not be related or romantically linked to a current Emerson Staff member or any member of the Emerson’s Board of Directors. 
  • You must be able to commit to the competition schedule, including a tech rehearsal February 27 or February 28,  a dress rehearsal on March 3, and the final Beast of Bozeman competition March 4
  • Carry yourself in a professional manner and treat all equipment, Emerson Staff, Volunteers, and fellow performers with courtesy and respect. 

Audition Rules: 

  • You must be eligible (see above) to compete and sign up for an audition slot in advance
  • You must audition in person. No taped auditions will be accepted! 
  • Please be ready to take the stage at your scheduled audition time; dance shoes on, warmed up, instruments out, etc. 
  • The Emerson will provide a professional technician and basic technical needs, soundboard, speakers,  cables, and microphones. 
  • Acts are responsible for all materials needed; costumes, props, etc. 
  • All acts should be no more than 5 minutes including your entrance and exit if necessary. This does not include any set up or breakdown of your equipment. 
  • All acts must be Federal Communications Commission (FCC) prime time appropriate. NO Obscene, Indecent, or Profane material!
  • Acts should be performance ready. Please have all material memorized. 
  • All backing tracks must be submitted in WAV or MP3 format to Beast of Bozeman no later than 24 hours in advance of your audition. 
  • The Beast of Bozeman competitors will be chosen from the live auditions by a committee. 
  • ALL DECISIONS MADE BY AUDITION COMMITTEE ARE FINAL! 

The Beast of Bozeman Semi Finals and Finale

  • The Beast of Bozeman will be broken up into 2 Semi Finals and a Finale.  Semi Final winners will be chosen  by a panel of judges. Only 15 acts total will advance to the Finale.  
  • All acts must be FCC prime time appropriate. NO Obscene, Indecent, or Profane material!
  • All Judges decisions are final and will not be open to discussion. 
  • Anyone attempting to challenge the judge’s decision (including anyone acting on their behalf) will be immediately disqualified and banned from The Beast of Bozeman competition going forward.

The Beast of Bozeman will be decided by an audience vote on March 4th. ALL SEMI FINAL WINNERS MUST BE AVAILABLE  FOR A TECH REHEARSAL, DRESS REHEARSAL AND THE FIANLE!

Media Release
By volunteering to participate in the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture's talent competition The Beast of Bozeman,  you hereby authorize the Emerson to photograph you and/or your performers and use any image or likeness for purposes of documentation and Emerson marketing which includes but does not limit to websites, social medial, and/or publications. This permission extends to all languages, media, formats and markets now known or hereafter devised. You  further grant the Emerson all right, title, and interest that you may have in all finished pictures, negatives, reproductions, and copies of the original print, and further grant the Emerson the right to give, sell, transfer, and exhibit the print in copies or facsimiles thereof, for marketing, communications, or advertising purposes, as it deems fit.
You hereby waive the right to receive any payment for the Emerson’s lawful use of any of the material described above for any of the purposes listed above or any lawful purposes in the future.

Volunteer Release
You are voluntarily participating in The Beast of Bozeman entirely at your own risk. In consideration of the risk of injury while participating in The Beast of Bozeman and as consideration for the right to participate in The Beast of Bozeman, you and your performers hereby for yourselves, your heirs, executors, administrators, assigns, or personal representatives, knowingly and voluntarily enter into this waiver and release of liability and hereby waive any and all rights, claims or causes of action of any kind whatsoever arising out of your participation in The Beast of Bozeman, and do hereby release and forever discharge the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture located at 111 South Grand Avenue, their affiliates, managers, members, agents, attorneys, staff, volunteers, heirs, representatives, predecessors, successors and assigns, for any physical injury, including but not limited to illness, paralysis, death, damages, economical loss, that you may suffer as a direct result of your participation in The Beast of Bozeman
