SURVEY HAND PATHOLOGIES IN CLIMBERS WITH MORE THAN 20 YEARS OF ACTIVITY

Study organized by Dr. Bini, resident in orthopedics and hand surgery, passionate about climbing. The aim is to investigate the results of a prolonged "climbing activity" and obtain information on any preventive gestures and attitudes that can guarantee years and years of activity!

How many hours / week do you practice? *
Do you practice other sports or activities that require an important use of your hands? (e.g. manual work) *
Do you practice specific training workouts (eg Pan Gullich, Moonboard etc): if yes, how often per week? have there been changes over the years? *
Have you ever injured your hands / wrists? If yes, can you briefly describe your main injuries, their severity, if they required periods of suspension from activities and how long, if you consulted a doctor, if you needed surgery, after how long you have recovered and if it changed your approach? *
How do you prevent injuries? (e.g. stretching, rest periods on a regular basis, abstention from activity if pain appears, training of the antagonists muscles, follow up by a physiotherapist or other health care professional, etc.). *
Do you have daily pains in your hands / wrists? *
Are there activities or movements you can no longer do in everyday life due to chronic deformations or hand pain? *
Do you suffer from other pathologies of hands and wrists (e.g. fracture outcome not due to climbing, or pathologies like chronic rheumatoid arthritis or other diseases not strictly related to climbing)? *
Any other comments / suggestions? *
If possible, I would ask you to send me photos of your hands (and X rays if you have some!) with this questionnaire, in various positions (open and closed palms, open and closed backs, open and closed side) or even better a small video in which you perform these movements. Not being able to visit you “in person”, this would help me a lot to evaluate the mobility and long-term outcomes of a "lifetime" of climbing. Thank you very much.
