Standardization in metaproteomics

Dear Metaproteomics Initiative Member,

Thank you for participating in our survey on standardization in metaproteomics. This survey aims to gather insights from our members about the need for standardized reporting formats in metaproteomics research.

This survey will take approximately 5 minutes. Your responses will remain confidential, and data will be merged with the responses we gathered at the session discussion we held at the International Metaproteomics Symposium in Avignon. These responses will be reported in an aggregated and anonymized manner in a perspective article on standardization in metaproteomics.

Thank you again for your participation, and we look forward to your valuable insights.

Best regards,

The Metaproteomics Initiative

Do you think standardization is necessary in metaproteomics?
*
What are the most important aspects to standardize in metaproteomics? E.g., protein digestion protocols, sequence database formatting metadata, ... Please list them in order of importance.
Which information, required to reproduce a metaproteomics study, do you feel is often lacking in the field? Please list them in order of importance.
What do you think will be the key benefits of (meta)data standards in metaproteomics?
What do you think will be the major downsides to (meta)data standards in metaproteomics?
Which are the key challenges and problems, according to you, that the field should overcome to adopt of (meta)data standards?
What could incentivize the use of (meta)data standards?

Which (meta)data standards do you already use? E.g., FASTA, mzML format, SDRF-Proteomics, standardised protocols, ...

The SDRF-Proteomics format (information on which can be found here, and the publication is here) captures generic proteomics metadata. Which additional metadata fields do you think should be added specifcially for metaproteomics?
If the results of this survey show a large interest in developing an SDRF for metaproteomics, would you like to participate? If yes, please list your e-mailaddress below.
If you want to be kept up to date about this publication, please list your e-mailaddress below.
