Ministry Opportunities at Holy Trinity Anglican Church
Since March of 2020 the rhythm of life in our church, like every other church, has been disrupted by the pandemic. Many ministries that had run for years had to be put on pause. Two years ago, most of us thought this would be a few months long, not years. Now that we are able to resume some more of our life and ministries, it feels like exercising muscles that haven't moved in a while. We remember how, but the first steps are a little slow and faltering.

This form is an invitation to think about where you might want to volunteer in one or more of the many ministries at Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Below you will find a listing of ministries, brief descriptions of them, and boxes to check if you are interested in learning more about volunteering in those ministries. Training and orientation are available for all of these ministries, if you are interested but not sure, just ask!

This form also asks you for some contact and personal information. First, so we know who is volunteering for what. Second, so that we can update our parish records and keep them current. Third, so that we, as your parish family, can appropriately recognize and celebrate important events in your life, if you like.

This form isn't just for "new" volunteers. Over these last two years, some folks have changed direction, discovered new passions, and found new priorities. This is good and holy growth! Please, even if you have volunteered in a ministry for years, let us know you're still interested in being part of it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to consider these ministries and where you feel called to serve. Blessings on all of your ministry!

Worship Ministries
Our praise and worship of God together is the soul of our life as the Body of Christ in this place. There are many ministries that make our worship what it is. Below are short descriptions of these ministries.

Altar Guild - Responsible for caring for and setting up for worship. Liturgical colours, flowers, altar linens, brass, liturgical supplies, candles, and more are all the work of these folks!

Communion Administrants - People licensed by the bishop to assist with distributing bread and wine at communion.

Intercessors - Those who write and usually (but not always!) lead the Prayers of the People at worship, They receive prayer requests from the office and craft prayers week by week to give voice to the thanksgivings and concerns of our parish.

Lectors - People who read from scripture during worship, sharing the Word with the gathered people of God.

Licensed Lay Readers - Laypeople licensed by the bishop to preside at Morning and Evening Prayer and, sometimes, licensed to preach as well. Often these people are also Communion Administrants and have other duties, but not necessarily.

Live Stream - These people keep track of the live stream, making sure that our friends and neighbours participating in worship through the internet are included and have what they need. Managing the chat during the live stream and the cameras to keep the most appropriate things in focus are the primary responsibilities here.

Music Ministry - A parish's music ministry should represent the people gathered to worship and help the congregation to sing its own song. If you have gifts for singing or playing an instrument and want to use them in worship, please let us know!

Servers - Those who assist with liturgical leadership as crucifers, acolytes, etc. Often in white robes and "up front" during worship, these people assist the clergy and other members of the liturgical leadership team to make sure our worship is prayerful and accessible.

Slides/Sound Board - Important but often unseen work, making sure the projected slides in our worship move along at the right time and that the microphones are a help, not a distraction.

Hospitality Ministries
If worship is the soul of our life as the body of Christ, drawing together as community and sharing fellowship is the heart. Making everyone feel welcome, whether they're here for the first time, a long time, or the first time in a long time, is central to the Christian way of life. Hospitality ministries are filled with people dedicated to making others feel welcome and cared for.

Greeters and Ushers - These people are usually the first you meet on entering the church. They are ready to welcome you, guide you to a seat or other facilities in the building, and make sure you have what you need. During worship, these same people will help you find your way around and lend a hand to folks who are confused or unsure about what's next.

Special Events - Special events like parish suppers or festivals need people willing to help organize food and beverage, decorate, and help set up furniture and facilities. This ministry tends to come in short bursts that need hard work over a few days.

Sunday Morning Fellowship - After worship there is nothing quite so nice as a chance to eat and drink and catch up with our friends and neighbours. Someone needs to make sure the coffee and tea are on, that the snacks are plated, and out, ready for people to share. If you like hosting parties and feeding people, this might be the ministry for you!

Pastoral Care Ministries
The call to love one another as we love God and ourselves is repeated over and over and over again in holy scripture. We have many ways of caring for those who are sick, lonely, grieving, anxious, and otherwise unwell or separated from their families and community. These ministries are some of the ways that we try to live up to this holy calling.

Healing - People who participate alongside clergy in prayers for healing for those who are sick. Some people in this ministry are licensed by the bishop to anoint with holy oil as the church prays for those in special need of God's power to restore us to wholeness.

Visitation teams - People in this ministry visit people who, for one reason or another, cannot make it to worship or events at the parish. These people may live in their own homes or in assisted living and other kinds of care. Pastoral visits keep them connected to the life of the church and remind them that even if we don't see them as often as we might like, they are not forgotten and remain in our hearts. Some visitation teams go to care homes and offer worship for the residents, helping them to praise and pray together where they live.

Other Ministries
Children's Ministry - When we gather for worship on Sunday mornings, we offer specialized learning for our youngest siblings. Children's ministry is a fun, energetic place to talk about bible stories, Christian life, and the love of God with young people, growing into the fullness of life in Christ.

Facilities Management Committee - We are blessed with a beautiful building and property; one of the few islands of green space in downtown Winnipeg. All of this requires careful maintenance. The Facilities Management Committee look after our building and property by making sure that it is all kept clean, in good repair, and long term issues are addressed before they become critical problems.

The Lunchroom - Every Tuesday and Thursday volunteers gather to prepare lunch and serve it to all who come, free of charge or any other expectation. The need for this ministry in our parish grows daily. Right now we share 500+ lunches every week with some of our most vulnerable friends and neighbours.

Morning Star Refugee Support Group - This group helps refugees immigrate to Canada by sponsoring their applications in partnership with the Diocese of Rupert's Land. There are ongoing fundraising efforts in addition to the administrative work. This ministry requires tenacity and patience, but is one that truly changes lives.

Prayer Requests - The parish receives prayer requests every week. Sometimes from parishioners, other times from people who know that the vocation of Christians is to pray. We read the names of those who have asked for our prayers in our worship on Sundays, but these names are held in prayer every day throughout the week. The members of this ministry pray for those who have asked for our intercession.
