Do you have a couple hours each month to brighten someone's day, bring a smile to their face and make a new friend?  Perhaps share stories, laugh and reminisce?

St Gerard is thrilled to take steps down a new path in our faith journey by beginning a new ministry called Caring Hearts.  The focus of this ministry is not only to provide relief for caregivers (respite care) but also to provide companionship for those parishioners in need. Our goal is to build and deepen the sense of community within St Gerard Parish.  No one should feel alone or overwhelmed!

What this ministry is:
  • At times, everyone experiences difficult and transitional situations.  We are here to offer a caring companion to listen, empathize and be a reminder of a loving and supportive faith community.
  • Depending on the circumstances this might be spending time talking, playing games, going for a walk or just being together.  Listening is the most important part of this ministry!
  • You would be matched to a parishioner to provide companionship once each month for a couple of hours.
What this ministry is not:
  • A means of providing any type of medical care.
  • A commitment to do chores for the participant (clean house, shopping, etc).
  • About giving advice, preaching or asking probing questions.
We are first asking for volunteers for the ministry itself and once we determine our resources we will loop around again to ask for parishioners needing assistance.  If you wish to learn more about this ministry please fill out the information below.  We will be scheduling an informational meeting to better explain this new ministry and answer any questions you may have.  If you have any immediate questions please contact Terry Drawert at 517-242-8643.

The smallest action could make the biggest impact on someone's day.  Please consider joining us!

Thank you and God Bless.
