Principal Investigator: Camille Caceci and Bianca Cilento
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Christy Tyler
What are some general things you should know about research studies?
We invite you to take part in an online survey study. Your participation in this study is voluntary. You have the right to be a part of this study, to choose not to participate, or to stop participating at any time without penalty. You are not guaranteed any personal benefits from participating in this study. If you don’t understand something in this form it is your right to ask the researcher for clarification or more information. A copy of this consent form will be provided to you, upon request. If at any time you have questions about your participation, do not hesitate to contact the researcher(s) named above.
What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this research is to determine and gain a better understanding of motivations for signing up with the Macrophyte Sampling Program (MSP). By exploring trends brought out from this survey, appropriate changes can be implemented to the MSP. User feedback will contribute data to understand volunteer recruitment, motivations for participating, and engagement in the mitigation of invasive species. Ultimately, this will help the Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM) improve its recruitment techniques, overall data collection, and serve as a case study for all community science programs.
What will happen if you take part in the study?
Participants in this study will be asked to complete a survey one time consisting of basic survey questions (multiple-choice, Likert scale questions, open-ended questions, and multiple choice questions) regarding MSP. The survey should take from 5 to 10 minutes. There are no right or wrong answers; we are just interested in your opinions. Your participation in this research is voluntary and it is your choice whether to participate or not. You may choose not to participate or to stop participating at any time without penalty or loss of benefits.
Risks
We don’t anticipate any risks to you if you participate.
Benefits
Knowledge and information obtained from this study via surveying MSP participants and volunteers can help enhance user experience, overall data collection, and serve as a case study to understand all community science programs. By sharing information garnered from this study to our partners Finger Lakes PRISM and iMapInvasives can help us accommodate favorable preferences of future volunteers and audiences.
Confidentiality
The information in the study records will be kept anonymous, we will not be collecting names or personal information; we will collect basic demographic data. The survey will be deployed with the sign-up form provided by the Finger Lakes PRISM for the MSP. Information such as name, phone number, and email will be collected by PRISM but will be removed by them before the data is handed to us to analyze. None of the individual responses will ever be presented alone. Raw data for open-ended questions will be aggregated and summarized in all reporting.
