Additional Information for AVID

AVID Tutorials
AVID Students will participate in AVID Tutorials twice a week in class using the AVID Tutorial System with assigned college tutors. AVID students will be assigned a weekly grade for their participation in AVID tutorials.

AVID Guest Speakers
AVID students will be exposed to guest speakers throughout the year. AVID students will be graded on participation, summarizing, and reflecting on each speaker. All notes are placed in their binder section.

AVID Grade Checks
Teachers and students aim to meet weekly to monitor grades. This takes place during the weekly binder check. Reflection and action plans are discussed and created to support student success.

AVID Planner A successful student uses their planner to write down homework assignments, daily agendas, important due dates, and school events. Use your month-at-a glance for planning future events and your week-at-a-glance for planning homework and other important daily activities. Planners will be part of your grade.

AVID Field Trips
AVID students will get an opportunity to attend a variety of field trips.  For the schools year, there will be only one bus available for all AVID 9-12 students per field trip.  The following protocol will be used:

*Field trip information will be delivered to all AVID classes and students will be given a permission slip.

*Permission slips will be turned into Ms. Vargas in room 304 BY THE STUDENT starting the following day.

*Permission slips will be accepted and students will be added to field trip list on a first come, first served basis using the following criteria:

*If students are put on a field trip list and then decide at the last minute not to attend, there will be a waiting list to add students to ensure we fill the bus, AND that student that did not attend the trip will not be allowed to attend upcoming field trips (illness/emergency understandable and cleared).

Plagiarism/cheating includes copying from the internet, book, or even another student. It also includes giving answers to other students who did not do their work. This will also result in an automatic F in citizenship for that grading period.

A citizenship grade is a formative assessment that includes all the work that leads to mastering a standard; it is detailed in the school-wide citizenship rubric. The rubric will be used, BUT NOT LIMITED TO assessment for citizenship grades.
