The Bight: Spooky Stories // Submissions

Adventure Stories Around the Campfire

Spooky Stories is the third installment of The Bight – an Adventure Story Series brought to you by Feathered Friends. Join us at Feathered Friends Seattle on Tuesday, October 29th at 6:00 PM to hear ridiculous, fun, and eerie tales! We will have around 4-8 people share local adventure stories throughout the night, with a Q&A session following each presentation.

The evening will end with a raffle benefiting our partner organization for the event, Protect Our Winters. POW is an outdoor movement for climate impact, advocating for legislative action around climate change and safeguarding the snowy winters we wait all summer for. Learn more about POW here.

Admission is free! Check out the event details and RSVP here

Do you have a spo0o0ky adventure story that you want to share with your community? Whether it’s an anecdote about that time you got a liiiiittle off trail, forgot toilet paper on your big wall climb, or were jumped by a bear in the middle of the night (yes, that's a real story), we want to hear your silly, eerie tale! This episode of The Bight is unique because it's not limited to a single sport, so your spooky story could be about a climb you did, a thru hike you went on, an overnight car camping trip, or even a bike ride around the city.

Please DO NOT submit *traumatic* stories. We're looking for stories with a touch of spook that still encourage folks to get out in the wilderness and explore -- not to deter people from enjoying the outdoors. Any stories that we deem big "S" scary WILL NOT be considered, so use your best judgement to keep it lighthearted and fun!

If you're not sure whether or not your story falls in these parameters, just send us an email at events@featheredfriends.com! We're totally happy to help you make that call.

To say "thank you!" for presenting, speakers will leave with some free Bight swag.

Please note: Feathered Friends may be publishing blog posts and/or social media posts featuring the presented stories. By agreeing to be a presenter, you are consenting to the use of your photos and written words for said published content. You will be cited as the author of these photos and stories.

Selected presenters will be expected to:

  • Present for their chosen timeframe (5, or 10 minutes) and answer audience questions
  • Provide a map and photo highlights in the presentation showcasing their adventure (this is not the event to talk about your secret climbs!)
  • Submit presentation slides by Monday, October 28th
  • Be (physically) at Feathered Friends Seattle on October 29th, prepared to present
  • Hang out afterwards to chat with folks about your presentation

Important Dates:
📢 10/22 Submissions close to public
⏰ 10/24 Presenters notified, lineup determined
✴️ 10/28 Presentation Slides Due
🎉 10/29 Event Night!

Short "elevator" pitch. Why do you want to share this story with the community?

This could be a variety of reasons – close team experience, new/novel route or big goal achieved, adventure that introduces people to new areas, amateur-friendly overnight, your path to finding sasquatch, etc.

Around 5-10 high-resolution photos will give us a good idea. Because this is a slideshow presentation, photos are an important factor in this style of storytelling.
