UC Title IX Student Advisory Board 2021-22
The University of California Title IX Student Advisory Board (SAB) provides formal structure for students and the UC Systemwide Title IX Office to continue building and strengthening a collaborative and synergistic relationship. The SAB advises the UC Systemwide Title IX Office on the University’s ongoing work to prevent and respond to sexual harassment, including sexual violence, from the student perspective. Through providing important feedback to the UC Office of the President (UCOP) and helping to inform students about developments of importance to them, the SAB’s mission is to elevate UC student voices in the pursuit of these prevention and response efforts.

The Board consists of 20 student members: one undergraduate student and one graduate student from each UC campus (except UCSF, which will have 2 graduate students). For the 2020-21 academic year, the appointment term will begin September 2021 and end June 2022. Some members of the 2020-21 Board will continue into the 2021-22 term. We are continuing accepting applications for the following vacant positions:

UC Berkeley, Graduate Student Representative
UC San Diego, Graduate Student Representative
UC San Francisco, Graduate Student Representative

Members are expected to participate in virtual meetings hosted by UCOP once a quarter. Additionally, members are expected to collaborate with UCOP and their campus Title IX Offices and CARE offices. There will be an orientation SAB meeting in September, 2021, and quarterly meetings during the term. (Additional calls may be added as needed, and student consultation may be requested during the summer months.) Board members who are unable to attend meetings should notify UCOP and the other Board member from their campus in advance. SAB members are not required to, but may meet outside of established Board meetings and conference calls.

At the time of application, a candidate must be an undergraduate, graduate, or professional student in good academic and disciplinary standing enrolled at one of the University’s ten campuses and remain in good standing throughout their appointment as a Board member. UCOP Student and Equity Affairs will confirm students’ standing with their respective campuses.

Applications are due by Monday, August 30, 2021. A selection committee comprised of student leaders and UCOP representatives will review all applications based on the following criteria:

Knowledge and interest in the area of Title IX and sexual harassment prevention and response
Willingness and ability to collaborate with colleagues in UCOP, the campus Title IX and CARE Offices
Understanding of the overall landscape of their campus and ability to think broadly and represent students from all backgrounds
Availability to serve on the board and participate in Board meetings, monthly conference calls, and other calls as needed.

Successful applicants will be notified early September

NOTE: All information on the application will be reviewed by a selection committee, which consists primarily of students but also includes employees of UC Office of the President. Please note that under the UC Policy on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (http://policy.ucop.edu/doc/4000385/SVSH), these UCOP employees are obligated to inform the Title IX Officer should they become aware that you or any other student has experienced sexual violence or sexual harassment.  Confidential resources on your campus may be found at   http://sexualviolence.universityofcalifornia.edu/get-help/index.html
