CJMS Mathcounts Club 2022-2023 Tryout Registration
Tryout Date: 09/16/2022, Friday 3:15 - 4:15 pm  (Note: There is no after school activity bus on Friday, parents will need to arrange pickup of their own students after the Tryout test.)

Location: Cafeteria

What to Bring: Pencils and Erasers. Scratch paper will be provided. No calculator allowed.

Who: Tryout is FREE and open to all current CJMS students.

Around 24 students will qualify into the Mathcounts Club based on the tryout score. Acceptance and Waitlist will be communicated by email. Please be prompt in responding to these emails. Decision may be made as earliest as the evening of the tryout day. Spots unclaimed by the response deadline may be given to waitlisted students.

Club families are expected to share the cost, including zoom account, database and material purchase, classroom rental, and T-shirts (optional).  

Club meeting time will be Sundays 9:30 -11am, weekly Oct-January. We plan to meet in person at school, contingent to COVID condition and classroom rental availability. Additional training sessions will be hosted for students advancing to the Chapter and State Competitions. Specifics will be communicated to parents of the Club members after the tryout, mostly through emails.

The above named student has my (our) permission to participate in the PTSA sponsored Mathcounts club events for the school year 2022 to 2023. The undersigned parent or guardian assumes all risks in connection with the student’s participation in any and all of the PTSA sponsored Mathcounts club activities. I, the undersigned participant, intending to be legally bound, do hereby for myself and heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, forever waive release and discharge the Maryland State PTA, all PTA officers, employees, agents, and volunteer from all liability, claims or demands for any damage, loss or injury to the student, the student’s property, or parent’s property in connection with participation in these activities, unless caused by the negligence of the PTA. I do hereby certify that to the best of my (our) knowledge and belief the above named minor is mentally & physically fit and able to participate in the events. In case of illness or accident, permission is granted for emergency treatment to be administered. It is further understood and agreed that the undersigned will assume full responsibility for any such action, including payment of costs. I attest and verify that I am aware of the inherent risks in participating in the aforementioned events.

This parental/guardian consent section is provided to inform you that your child/children may be participating in video/audio conferencing and/or recording for the purpose of their educational instruction and learning opportunities during the 2022-2023 Cabin John Middle school Mathcounts Club season. These remote learning sessions are intended for instructional purposes only. During remote learning sessions, students are required to be visible/audible to other participants (students and Cabin John Mathcounts instructors) in the remote learning session using video conferencing platforms such as Zoom or Google Meets. It is also possible that others in the participant’s households may see or hear the participants. For the duration of any remote learning session, your students are expected to act in a school-appropriate manner. Regular school rules and consequences will apply. In the event of inappropriate behavior, a student may be removed from a remote learning session.
