May 18. 7 -11 am
The FPCC and CPD are organizing a bird blitz of the Kings Grove/Sauk Trail/Schubert's Woods complex near Steger. A habitat restoration project is being planned there and the landowner would like to know what’s nesting where. This is a great opportunity to help save birds and improve habitat.
We will each take a section (and could work in pairs), note all the birds seen and heard, and map locations of birds of concern. At least one person in your group needs excellent skills at identifying local breeding birds by ear.
After you register you will be assigned a section and a partner if you want one. We will bird in the morning (starting any time between dawn and 7 am) and then get together around 10:15 for brunch. You are encouraged to scout your area before Blitz day.
Water will be provided but please bring a reusable water bottle. Wear a hat, long pants, socks, and sturdy shoes. Consider sunblock, and a long-sleeved shirt to prevent ticks.
Exact information about meeting place and brunch location will be sent by May 1.
Please let us know you are interested below and mark your calendar. We will send information in early May.
Thank you!
