COVID-19 and Vulnerable Communities
The COVID-19 pandemic has fueled hate speech against vulnerable communities, who are the most affected. Chiefly among these are indigenous communities, migrant workers, illegal immigrants, refugees and the urban poor. Following a brief presentation of Asia Centre's findings on this topic, invited speakers and participants will deliberate on the following questions: To what extent has COVID-19 pandemic fueled hate speech against the vulnerable communities? What has been civil society and governments’ response to mitigate the issue? What specific measures can be taken to address the issue? This event is part of a series of webinars in the lead up to Asia Centre's international conference on Hate Speech in Asia: Challenges and Solutions scheduled 7-9 October 2020, Bangkok, Thailand.
