ARC STEM Center New Tutor Application
The STEM Center is hiring enthusiastic Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Majors to tutor in our center.  Applicants should demonstrate a passion for community involvement, have typically taken Calculus I (Math 355 or Math 400) or higher, and be committed to tutoring our diverse student population in mathematics and science courses.  Tutors typically work 4-6 hours per week, so as not to be intrusive on their academic studies.

To apply, complete this google form.  You will additionally be asked to submit a Letter of Recommendation from a campus member who can comment on your qualifications as a potential tutor.

Summer Tutoring Applications: Due April 30.
Fall Tutoring Applications: Due June 30.

STEM Center Tutors are required to attend a series of paid workshops at the beginning of the semester and meetings periodically throughout the semester.  These meetings are typically scheduled on Fridays from 3pm to 4pm.  Will you be able to attend these meetings? *
STEM Curriculum Preparation
When looking for individuals to tutor with the STEM Center, we don't expect students to be able to tutor everything.  Instead we're looking to develop a team of individuals who have specialties and general knowledge in different fields.

The following is a list of the most common courses we tutor in the STEM Center.  Check all courses which you feel comfortable tutoring.

<Note: We will be checking Los Rios transcripts to verify academic preparation. If you feel your transcripts do not reflect your abilities, please include a brief statement in the "additional qualifications" question at the end of this form.>
Mathematics Courses
Chemistry Courses
Physics Courses
Biology Courses
Programming Courses
Engineering Courses
What would you describe as your strongest subjects? *
Community Engagement & Leadership
At its core, the STEM Center is a community center designed to provide a positive and inclusive space for all ARC students taking STEM courses. We want to make sure that all STEM Students feel as though they have a home in our center. As a tutor, you will be viewed as a leader in this community.
The STEM Center supports math and science students of all skill levels, demographics, and cultures. The majority of our students are first generation and financial aid eligible.  Briefly describe why you want to support our center's diverse student population. *
Describe any involvement in Student Clubs, Student Leadership, or other Campus Programs.
In addition to tutoring, student leaders will often be asked to promote, support, and/or participate in different committees, programs, and outreach activities.  Check all activities which you would be interested in being involved in:
Anticipated Availability
While we know that student availability isn't certain until the semester begins, please select the days and times which you anticipate being available to tutor.  Note that during the first week of the semester, we will work with tutors to adjust availability to better fit with classes.
