Bioconductor, supported by the
Chan Zuckerberg Initiative's EOSS program, has partnered with
The Carpentries as a member organization. Our goal is to ensure excellence in instruction and develop infrastructure for high-quality, pedagogically-sound training, with a special focus on supporting local languages. The Carpentries, a non-profit organization, excels in teaching computer programming and data science skills to researchers through workshops that are accessible, inclusive, and use the best practices in teaching.
In this collaborative effort, we aim to train 30 globally located instructors to the same high standards by August 2024. These instructors will lead inclusive training courses in various local languages, enhancing the reach and impact of our programs.
The Carpentries Instructor Training is conducted remotely, offering two formats: a 2-day full-day format and a 4-day half-day format. This training is offered free-of-charge to selected members of the Bioconductor community. The focus is on evidence-based teaching practices, rather than technical skills training. Applicants should have at least one year of experience in using Bioconductor packages. They are expected to have the necessary technical skills to effectively teach entry-level Bioconductor Carpentries Modules to learners within a year of completing our Instructor Training program. Although these Modules are primarily designed for in-person workshops, they could also be adapted for remote delivery.
If you are interested in becoming a certified Carpentries instructor and contributing to the Bioconductor teaching community, we encourage you to apply using this form by February 25th 2024.
