Kety Machado was a passionate educator who dedicated herself to her students. Mrs. Machado most cherished moments were in the New Brunswick Public Schools working with her bilingual students. She understood their struggles and challenges. Like her, they were immigrants to the United States and needed support starting over in a new country.  After arriving from Cuba, Mrs. Machado was the recipient of a scholarship, which enabled her to graduate from Ashland College, Ohio. Mrs. Machado believed strongly in the importance of an education.  

The Kety Machado Scholarship will be awarded to a senior, of Hispanic/Latin origin, in the New Brunswick High School in the district's Bilingual/ESL program. The criteria for selection are as follows:
- The student has a 3.0 GPA or higher
- The student has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year college
- The student has been involved in school activities
The recipient will receive a certificate and a check will be made to the institution of his/her choice.

The Bilingual/ESL/WL Office will review applications, interview candidates, and make the final selection.

Kety Machado fue una educadora apasionada que se dedicó a sus alumnos. Los momentos más preciados de la Sra. Machado fueron en las Escuelas Públicas de New Brunswick trabajando con sus estudiantes bilingües. Ella entendió sus luchas y desafíos. Como ella, sus estudiantes eran inmigrantes en los Estados Unidos y necesitaban apoyo para comenzar de nuevo en un nuevo país. Después de llegar de Cuba, la Sra. Machado recibió una beca que le permitió graduarse de Ashland College, Ohio. La Sra. Machado creía firmemente en la importancia de la educación.

La Beca Kety Machado se otorgará a un/a estudiante de último año, de origen hispano/latino, en la Escuela Secundaria de New Brunswick en el programa Bilingüe/ESL del distrito. Los criterios de selección son los siguientes:
- El/la estudiante tiene un GPA de 3.0 o superior
- El/la estudiante ha sido aceptado en una universidad de 2 o 4 años.
- El/la estudiante ha estado involucrado en actividades escolares.
El/la estudiante que reciba la beca recibirá un certificado y se hará un cheque a nombre de la institución de su elección.
Si está interesado/a en solicitar esta beca, complete este formulario e indique cómo cumple con los criterios anteriores y por qué cree que debería recibir esta beca. Además, presente una carta de recomendación dirigida a la Oficina Bilingüe/ESL/WL y envíela por correo electrónico a carolina_arvelo@nbpsnj.net.
La Oficina Bilingüe/ESL/WL revisará las solicitudes, entrevistará a los candidatos y hará la selección final.
