Summer Scholars Academy
Interest Form: Academic Teacher

The YMCA is hiring 6 additional NYS Certified Teachers to work in coordination with our Summer Scholars Academy Initiative which seeks to offer a focused summer learning program to reduce summer learning loss. These are contract positions with the YMCA as the employer and are different from the the teachers JPS will be hiring for LEAP. JPS is hiring teachers to guide reading intervention to small groups for 30 minutes/day.  The YMCA is hiring 6 additional teachers to guide ELA and Math blocks so that these older scholars will receive an additional 2 hours of teacher led instruction for all 7 weeks of the summer learning program.

The instructors hired by the YMCA will be guiding classroom instruction to rising 5th to 8th graders at Ring School. This is being done in coordination with the JPS LEAP reading interventionists who will "pull out" rising 5th to 6th graders from classrooms for focused reading intervention. Teachers hired by the YMCA will provide a full morning of instruction to classrooms of rising 5th to 8th graders.  Each instructor will guide 3 hours of instruction each day to 3 classrooms(Monday-Thursday) for approximately an hour to each classroom.  Each classroom is anticipated to have 12 scholars.

Program dates are July 6th to August 20th with classroom setup and training occurring at a TBD time between June 28th to July 1st. Program hours for scholars are Monday to Friday from 8:30-3:30.  Certified teachers will work Monday-Thursdays during those weeks, 8:30-12:30.  Certified teachers will guide and ELA or Math blocks in coordination with Assistant teachers that will be assigned to each cluster.
