This was an unusual year to say the least for all of us. The school closure and world-wide pandemic changes the way the school year went and as a result, I would like to have some information about how you self assess aspects of continuous online learning. As expressed in emails and on my website some facts about the end of the school year are: final marks are the same as the last report card (March 13th) baseline marks as per provincial instruction (with a possibility of them going up in some cases), no final assessments (final project or final exam) is required – but can be done in some cases, report card comments will follow a provincial guideline, and if no engagement attempts at online learning in some format has been done, it is possible you will be doing credit recovery next year (all dependent on school decisions made next fall).

How would you self-assess your participation in engaging in online content by watching/reading unit content, completing assessments, and handing them in? *

There was approximately two major units not covered before school closure and could have been engaged in online (depending on the Computer Science course enrolled in)

Consistently: I have been doing and handing in some work almost every week since school closure (either online or printed)

Usually: I have done “some” of the things outlined above about half the time

Sometimes: I have barely engaged (less than half the time) with the things above or had technical or other issues engaging

Rarely: I have not engaged at all (or only once or twice) with the things above or had technical or other issues engaging

How would you self-assess your participation in engaging in online content by attending weekly online classes or watching the recorded video of that class after the fact? *

There was about 9 weeks of online classes available that you had the option of engaging with each week

Consistently: I have been “tuning in” to online classes almost every week since school closure

Usually: I have engaged with online classes about half the time

Sometimes: I have barely engaged with online classes (less than half the time) or had technical or other issues engaging

Rarely: I have not engaged at all (or only once or twice) or had technical or other issues engaging

How would you self-assess your participation in engaging in online content by watching Mr. Wachs' website for updates, reading and answering Mr. Wachs' emails, asking Mr. Wachs questions (through video conferences or email), completing Mr. Wachs' online surveys, or other means of connecting with Mr. Wachs? *

Consistently: I have been connecting to Mr. Wachs' content or communicating with him almost every week since school closure

Usually: I have done “some” of the things outlined above about half the time

Sometimes: I have barely engaged (less than half the time) with the things above or had technical or other issues engaging

Rarely: I have not engaged at all (only once or twice) with the things above or had technical or other issues engaging

Overall, how would you self-assess your level based on these provincial report card levels?

Consistently: The student participated all of the time (or almost all of the time) in remote learning (either online, print-based, or a combination) and completed assignments. Monitoring of progress was ongoing.

Usually: The student participated more than half of the time in remote learning and completed approximately half of the assignments. There was some monitoring of progress.

Sometimes: The student participated less than half of the time in remote learning and their participation in learning activities was limited. Therefore, assessment of progress was limited.

Rarely: The student never (or almost never) participated in remote learning. Assessment was not possible.
