The purpose of this application is to guide you in preparing the Annual Report of your Section's activities for submission to AAA. Annual Reports should cover the period from January 1, 2019 - December 31, 2019. The Section leader who was in office during this time period is the person responsible for submitting the Annual Report on behalf of their Section. Please use these instructions as you prepare your report.

Purpose of the Section Annual Report

We realize that some of the questions may seem unnecessary to you. AAA does have some of the data requested. But, aside from data transfer issues, we worry that simply going by what we have on hand at headquarters would be to engage in the kind of top-down approach that so much anthropology shows is ineffective at best. Asking presidents to take a close look at the sections and to report what they see from their own vantage point is immensely more helpful in ensuring that the fullest picture possible of Section accomplishments and challenges can be conveyed to the Executive Board and Staff. Therefore, while we will re-populate the membership number and budget number after you submit the reports (that is when those data will become available) please have a look at what your records suggest these numbers to be. Discrepancies will be telling. As for the other questions, we will rely on what you report as representing the section experience of the items requested. Having a better grasp of how things look from a in insider perspective positions us well to make helpful decisions and otherwise respond appropriately to section needs moving forward.

According to the AAA by-laws, each Section is required to submit an Annual Report to the AAA. Reports are reviewed by a committee of fellow Section Assembly Executive Committee (SAEC) and forwarded to the Executive Board for their final approval. These committees and the AAA Staff use the reports to plan the Association's budgets and activities and track trends in Section membership and program development. Annual reports are also available to the membership via the AAA web site.

The Section Annual Report is critical to the health of AAA and of all its sections. Much of what happens in AAA occurs in semi-autonomous Sections. Section Annual reports are the only way that the AAA Executive Board, the Section Assembly and AAA staff have of understanding the state of the Association as a whole. The SAEC uses the reports to review section activities and assist in collaboration that can lead to the establishment of best practices.

Directions for Completing the Annual Report Form
Please use this report to summarize your section's status and activities. It is important that you summarize your section's activities rather than submitting documents such as section committee reports, minutes and other lengthy documentation. You do not need to use complete sentences and you may use abbreviations as long as you define them.
