This is a survey to request volunteer shifts. Your request will be responded to via email. Your volunteer date is not set until you receive an email confirmation from BTS House Management.
Volunteer requests are responded to in the order they are received, as quickly as possible. The volume of requests received is quite high; therefore please allow us 5-7 business days to respond to your request.
If you submit a request and all ushering slots have been filled, your name will be placed on a waiting list. If a spot opens up, the first person on the waiting list is offered that spot, and so on down the list as spots become available. In respect to your fellow volunteers on the waiting list, if you find you are no longer able to make your ushering shift, please send an email to
volunteer@bostontheatrescene.com or call 617 933 8670 so we can offer the spot to another volunteer.
The following behaviors or failure to adhere to the guidelines below may result in your removal from the volunteer pool: repeated tardiness, absences without notice, dressing inappropriately, not cleaning post-show, having a negative attitude or not following instructions from the Head Usher.Once you've received your email confirmation, you are set to usher. Please arrive at the Calderwood 1 hour before the performance begins. For example: A 8pm curtain time would indicate volunteers should be at the theater by 7pm. Volunteers should come dressed in nice black clothing - no jeans, sweatpants, t-shirts or sneakers. Volunteers dressed inappropriately may be asked to leave. Please make sure to arrive ON TIME AND READY TO WORK for your ushering shift. It is essential that you arrive on time, in order to get oriented with the theater space and finish your other pre-show duties before the lobby opens. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you may be asked to reschedule for another date or be turned away. Remember that parking in the South End is always difficult, regardless of the day. When driving in, allow ample time to find a parking space. Duties include stuffing and handing out programs, seating patrons, and answering basic questions about the theater.
While seats cannot be guaranteed for volunteers, we always do our very best to find you a seat. Seating is at the discretion of the House Manager and Head Usher. Staff will seat you in an available seat right before the show begins.
As a reminder, when you signed up to volunteer, you attested that you read and agree to The Huntington’s Code of Respect: The Huntington aspires to create an inclusive and welcoming space for all communities that gather here.
