ACO is made up of a large number of local players from all walks of life who play at a high standard. By filling out this form, you are indicating to us that you're interested in playing with ACO. If there are dates below that you know you are unavailable for, please indicate this in the spaces provided.
Please note that filling in this form does not guarantee you will get an invite as we have many sections which are already oversubscribed. If your availability changes, simply submit the form again; we will use the most recent form.
The committee will meet at the start of April '24 to agree upon the initial invite lists. Our discussions are centred around good ACO citizenship (rehearsal attendance, paying subs on time, helping to set up/pack up, helping to create a good atmosphere, etc.), availability and high playing standard/experience.
Subs
Aberdeen City Orchestra is a charity whose charitable aims include "furthering the musical development of its members by rehearsing and performing musical concerts in the Aberdeen area" and "organising and performing musical concerts in the Aberdeen area for the benefit and enjoyment of local people". In order to function, ACO players pay a small fee per concert. Currently, this is £15 for those full-time employed and £7.50 concession. We would never want money to be a barrier to music so please reach out to us if you need support.
ACO is made up of professional players, ex-professionals, and high-level amateurs. We come together to make good music and we all pay subs. Any profit from concerts is invested back into the orchestra by hiring world-class soloists, purchasing/hiring music, paying for conductors and venues (which now includes an annual performance at the Music Hall).
