What does the cultural environment mean?
Cultural environment is environment shaped by human actions and nature, showing culture and life as it is lived. Cultural environment emcompasses buildings, landscapes, layers of time, memories, traditions and practices of everyday life. Cultural environments are part of our living environment, scenes of everyday life and celebration, architecture of different times, parks and squares, relics and archeological heritage. Cultural environments are strength and resource for the city.
Why is this survey done?
The city residents are experts of the cultural environment of their own city district. With this survey we are collecting information about the valuable cultural environments. Cultural environment and its values must be considered when planning and repairing buildings. The Cultural Environment Programme highlights those cultural environments that are not widely recognized.
