Starter Questions:
Did anyone you know fight in either of these wars? Did they talk about their experience? What did they do after the war? Did people's experiences in general during the war have an impact on daily life afterwards (e.g., participation in veteran's groups, expressions of patriotism, memorials and ceremonies, etc.)?

How did the onset of the Cold War affect life? Did your family, or anyone you know, prepare a bomb shelter? What was involved in creating one? Did you participate in any "duck and cover" school drills? If so, what were they like? How did you feel while doing them? Were you scared of nuclear war?

Do you think that the structure of military life had an affect on how life was structured in the 1950's? Did people have more "communal spirit" then? If so, how was this spirit expressed?

Westborough in the 1950's Project Background
The Westborough History Working Group at the Westborough Public Library is teaming up with Westborough TV to create programming and an eventual film on Westborough in the 1950’s, and we need your help. Over the next few months, we will be gathering from the Westborough community photographs, memories, images of ephemera, and other information about what it was like to live in Westborough during this formative decade.

As part of this information gathering, we are asking people to submit their memories about life in the 1950's--whether you lived in Westborough during this time or not. If you were not alive during the 1950's or were too young to remember, then perhaps you can use this question to interview someone who did, do some research to try to answer the question a different way, or talk about your own experience in today's context.

We will be posting more questions and other activities relating to this project in the upcoming weeks.
