Youth Mission Fund Grant Descriptions and Requirements

The mission of First Presbyterian church is to know Christ, to make Christ known, and to exhibit Christ’s love through worship, education, and service.  Every aspect of that mission is pursued through the youth mission program.  Our congregation recognizes the unique and incredible work that God does in the hearts and minds of young people during and through mission experiences. Over the decades, First Pres has invested in cultivating the missional imagination of our youth. Out of that generous and passionate commitment to youth missions, our church has created the Youth Mission Fund (YMF). The YMF awards grants to students who are actively pursuing a deeper understanding of who God is and who God is calling them to be in Christ through mission and service.

The Youth Mission Fund offers two different grants to the youth:

The Mission Leadership Award and The Discipleship Award.

-The Mission Leadership Award covers 75% of the cost of trips.
-The Discipleship Award covers 50% of the cost of trips.

Both grants are awarded to students who have exhibited a hunger for spiritual growth as well as a desire to serve in the mission of the Christ’s church.

We look forward to receiving your application and are glad that you want to be on one of the FPC mission teams this year!  Please do not hesitate to call or email with any additional questions!!

All Grant Applicants must complete the following:
1.     Please complete the attached Grant Application which lets us know for which Grant you are applying. Email (youth@fpcnashville.org) or mail completed form as soon as possible.

2. Grant Interview: Meet with a member of the youth staff to discuss hopes, prayer requests, and responses to application questions.

3. Join in the mission of the Church:  Mission experiences don’t just take place on mission trips but most of the time in everyday local life.  We ask that you sign up and partner with our church in at least two of the options listed on the end of the application.

4. You have to breathe in and out to breathe: two of the primary practices of our faith are worship and mission. Worship is like the breathing in and mission is like breathing out.  We need both for our souls to breathe.  For this reason we ask that you regularly attend a Sunday service for the 3 months leading up to your short term mission experience.  This could be the 8:30 or 11:00.  We know that there will be Sundays when that is not possible.  Again we will not be tracking this, but we’d prefer you worship at least two Sundays every month.

5. Raise at least $150. In addition to the amount that your family can afford we ask that the youth raise at least $150 outside the church through babysitting, lawn mowing, car washing, or just their regular jobs to put towards the cost of the mission experience. Many of the youth ministry’s volunteers have little children and would love to support a babysitter who is saving money to pay for their short term mission.  Email the youth program coordinators at youth@fpcnashville.org for specific volunteers’ names and numbers.

6. Attend the Annual Stuff & Mail: Every year the youth ask the the congregation to continue to support the youth mission program through a letter writing campaign.  We ask that applicants bring their parents and participate in the event.
