STAR courses are offered by a variety of education providers to provide students with the opportunity to gain practical experience of a possible future career and to develop an understanding of future opportunities for education and training. Schools are funded by the Ministry of Education to provide these opportunities and no charge is made to students.  When a completed permission form is returned to the school a place is booked for the student on the course requested and at that point the school is committed to paying for the placement.  This means that students must attend all sessions  unless illness or other unexpected emergency makes attendance impossible
