Haven Presents: Poetry, Power, and the People Workshop
SIGN UP FOR OUR IN-PERSON WORKSHOP!

Tuesdays November 2nd, 9th, 16, 30 & December 7th @ 4:30-6:00pm
(With a closing gallery event the week after)

Address: Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library
40 W 20th St #1, New York, NY 10011

Join Mahogany L. Browne and Urban Word for a workshop on the power of poetry to connect people and narratives. This workshop primarily centers on BIPOC Women & Non-Binary Folks.
(Allies are welcome.) While we are primarily serving ages 13-19, we have a few slots for young adults to join in the storytelling, creative writing process.

The aim of these 6 sessions is to use the Arts & Storytelling as a mechanism to document Herstory (their personal history) in a full-color Zine! This Zine will serve as a Collective-Community Herstory Book (History Book). This workshop will incorporate the arts (Poetry, Writing, Visual Art, and Storytelling, etc.) to express and document the participants' experiences of racism and injustice. In addition, we will explore systemic problems and other underlying issues that shape how we function in society. Part of the programming will be dedicated to allowing the participants to process trauma, the other part will be focusing on creating paths of transformation and joy. Participants will also explore how they can use the arts and storytelling to convey a message.

The closing event will be a gallery walk & performances featuring the work within the Zine.
