2020 CIT Application Form
The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is a volunteer program designed to give students ages 13-15 the opportunity to work in a camp setting. It is expected of all CITs to take full advantage of the experience they have been given to gain the knowledge needed to become a camp counselor.
PLEASE NOTE: A CIT is NOT guaranteed to be hired as a counselor after completing the CIT program.

CITs will be assigned to either Camp Kirkwood or Camp Kirkwood Kids, based on CIT's preference and camp needs. Camp Kirkwood (for campers in grades 1-5) meets Mon-Fri from 9:30 am-3:30 pm, and Camp Kirkwood Kids (for campers ages 3-5) meets Mon-Thurs from 9:30-Noon. CITs will choose to work either the first or second 3-week session of camp, or work both. As with paid counselors, CITs committing to work the selected sessions means no absences will be permitted unless agreed upon before the CIT is hired. Exceptions include illness and family emergencies. Camp dates are as follows:

Camp Training: June 1-5 (not the whole week, specific dates and times TBD)
Session 1: June 8-June 26
Session 2: June 29-July 17
Reminder: Camp Kirkwood Kids does not meet on Fridays

CIT Responsibilities:
Assist counselor in supervising, planning and implementing camp activities
Assist counselor in maintaining a safe and fun environment for campers
Assist counselor in supervision on off-site field trips, and at the pool
Provide ideas and suggestions to better the camp program

Applicants and parents must understand that this program does not exist as a day care program. Those who are hired as CITs will be treated as camp staff and expected to act as such. CITs that do not follow the staff rules and choose to behave as campers will be immediately dismissed from the program.

In order to prepare applicants for future employment experiences, CIT applicants will participate in a group interview in order to determine who will be a good fit with the program (see available interview dates/times below). Finally, applicants will be asked to provide the contact information for two personal references. These could be any two adults who are not related to the applicant, such as a teacher, neighbor, school counselor, religious leader, etc.).

If you have any questions, please contact Laura Thal Horton at THALLK@kirkwoodmo.org or 314-822-5862.
