Registration to participate in Provincial Consultation
Registration for Participation in the Alberta Restorative Justice Association’s province wide consultation on the following documents:
- ARJA Pre-Amble to the Alberta Restorative Justice Practice Elements
- Restorative Justice Practice Elements
- 'Principles and Guidelines for Restorative Justice (RJ) Practice in Criminal Matters’, released August 2019 by the Federal-Provincial-Territorial (FPT) Ministers of Justice and Public Safety
- ARJA Standards for Training for Restorative Justice Facilitators in Criminal Matters
- ARJA 7 Grandmother and Grandfather Teachings

In April of 2019 the Board of the Alberta Restorative Justice Association (ARJA) reached consensus to formally look at the first steps to creating guidelines for the practice of RJ in Criminal Matters in the province of Alberta.  As a Board we focused on what we viewed as critical RJ Practice Elements, and standards for Training of RJ Facilitators for Criminal Matters.  We also explored the Indigenous foundations of certain RJ practices and had the “7 Grandmother and Grandfather Teachings’ shared with us in respect to RJ.

In August of 2019 the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Ministers for Justice and Public Safety released the ‘Principles and Guidelines for Restorative Justice (RJ) Practice in Criminal Matters’ which was the result of a national consultation undertaken by the Federal-Provincial-Territorial (FPT) Working Group on Restorative Justice (WGRJ).  The FPT WGRJ consultation was regarding proposed changes to the “Values and Principles of RJ in Criminal Matters” and “RJ Program Guidelines for Criminal Matters” documents. These documents had originally been developed after a national consultation in 2003-2004.

Now that the final document called ‘Principles and Guidelines for Restorative Justice Practice in Criminal Matters’ has been released, this is an opportunity to have input that could potentially allow for an Alberta-centric version of RJ Principles and Guidelines, including Facilitator Training standards and the weaving in of Indigenous teachings into RJ processes and practices.  Your participation either in-person or online is strongly encouraged.

This registration form is needed to assist ARJA in ensuring the type of participation that you or your organization would like to commit to as part of the provincial consultation.

Deadline for Registration is May 31, 2020 at midnight.
